Goalscorers: Keith Evans 30',34'

Perhaps the best ground Chorley have visited in this division with a playing surface fit for bowls. This allowed the ball-playing skills of the players to shine through and Keith Evans took full advantage. In the second minute he headed against the bar. This was followed by two goals of the highest class. The first however, around the half-hour, had an element of luck, the ball hitting the referee before landing at Evans' feet. He sidestepped two defenders then floated the ball over the keeper. Within three or four minutes CFC were 2 up. Barker, whose workrate was tremendous all afternoon, took the ball inside from the corner flag, turned his marker and quickly put a long cross straight over the defence to the far post where Evans nodded home. Throughout the first half Chorley coolly dominated - this was championship form! Mitchell shot from out wide and just missed. On another occasion 3 or 4 Magpies attackers lined up in the box to take a Simms' pass which somehow passed them all by.

In the second half, in a similar way to our display at Farsley, CFC sat back and allowed Stocksbridge to come more into it. They were given heart when Dobie, their most dangerous player, cut in from the left and shot past Marsh. Also impressive was their substitute (No12) . Stocksbridge pressed but Chorley's defence held out with perhaps one near shock just 10 minutes from time when Marsh blocked a goalbound shot with his legs and the ball spun away to safety. Rostron 'sparked' throughout - he's becoming a real handful both in attack and defence. And in the second half, when we allowed Stocksbridge to get more into the game, the back four absorbed the pressure well. In fact all 11 who started played well.
