Unibond League Division One

Chorley went to back to their traditional level of performance when playing in Yorkshire to extinguish any hope we had of finishing in the top 13 this season.

Having had such a wonderful day out at Bracken Moor last season, this was an inept performance where in truth, we should have been behind long before the 48th minute.

Patterson's team selection again left much to be desired as he left Matt Edgington on the bench despite his excellent substitute appearance at Guiseley on Saturday.

Chorley had two (!) attempts on goal during the game including one which saw Lee Ashcrofts efforts disallowed for pushing on 33 minutes. In the second half Danny Mills, who looked purposeful when he came on, had a shot from the edge of the box well saved but again, Butterworth was offside as he tried to follow up.

Apart from that, Stocksbridge looked much the better team and played fluent football using the width of Alvin Riley excellently. Time and again they broke through the defence and were unforutnate not to score following good saves by Bennett and a goal-line clearance by Lee Pryers.

In the second half, things finally started to go downhill and we fell behind following the usual routine of a cross in the box for the unmarked player to finish. Stocksbridge made it two on 64 minutes when a corner was scrambled home.

Just for sheer entertainment value, or whether to kill time to prevent us conceeding further goals, Patterson made three substitutions in five minutes including removing himself from the action. The timing of the first being literally 30 seconds after Stocksbridge had wrapped up the game brought back memories of Chorley managers of the past trying to shut the gate once the horse has bolted.

Their third goal was superbly finished by their left winger who gave Lee Clitheroe a torrid time all night (width - novel idea!) and was roundly applauded by the Chorley fans behind the goal. The fourth was converted four minutes later with a one-on-one past Bennett.

Most Chorley fans left the ground without shouting abuse at Patterson because there is quite simply no point. If Molly was sacked on results, Patterson should have gone two weeks ago. Perhaps only a painful hammering at Irongate (pretty likely following them putting 5 past Colwyn Bay last night) on Monday can get rid of him now!
