There is little to say about this dull game of few chances. CHorley were marginally the better side for most of the game, after Stocksbridge had dominated the opening exchanges, but lost out to a late goal from Ring. Eatock, playing wide on the left for much of the game, had the two best chances, one towards the end of each half. On both occasions, he drew a good save from Hodgson. Most of Chorley's shots had little power behind them and were easily gathered, whilst Stocksbridge threatened only sporadically.
The midfield looked lightweight without Borland, who will be out until Christmas with ankle damage. Haworth is not a winger on this evidence, and the 4-4-2 formation shored things up at the back but left Chorley short of attacking options. The injured Fogarty was sorely missed. Douglas-Pringle and Smith show little understanding of each other and rarely linked up well. The crossing from both flanks was generally poor, and usually failed to beat the first defender. Douglas-Pringle put in the best cross, which Thompson, on for the injured Pennington, met with an air shot. Thompson was slightly better than he has been in recent weeks, showing more inclination to run with the ball and take players on.
The goal came when a lack of attention in defence allowed Ring to sidefoot home from close range. Cliff Power looked OK on his brief debut, but may have been at fault for the goal. There seems little hope of avoiding relegation this season, if there is to be a managerial change it must come now or it is not worth bothering.
