The defences were on top in this game of few chances. A draw was probably the right result on the balance of play, but Chorley will be more disappointed, after having scored first and conceded an unfortunate late leveller.

Mike Bromham was absent owing to work commitments, so Tench returned on the left. Thompson started up front alongside Wright as Chorley lined up in their customary 3-5-2 formation.

The game got off to a slow start. In fact the opening period was mostly notable for some rare bookings for the home side. Callaghan was booked for just two fouls, then, less forgivably, Priestley saw yellow for dissent after the linesman gave a corner. However Chorley did create the best chance of the first half when Bluck played a short corner to Tench, whose driven cross was smacked against the far post by Thompson. Wright joined his team-mates in the book towards the end of the half, again for dissent.

Chorley showed more attacking intent in the second half, and went ahead two-thirds of the way through the match. Vermiglio and Gibbons made a break down the right, and from the resulting throw-in Thompson ran onto Vermiglio's pass, took two touches and blasted the ball over the keeper and in. With around eight minutes left, Gibbons should have wrapped the win up with a free header at the far post. Unfortunately, he directed the ball into the ground and it bounced kindly for the keeper. As luck would have it Stocksbridge equalised with their next attack. A throw-in from the left wing reached Hannah, whose presence caused chaos. The ball eventually found the net via at least one Chorley player, Tench getting the last touch with a despairing slide into the net.

Results elsewhere meant that Chorley are a point closer to the playoffs, although our next opponents, Woodley, moved above us. A win would of course have been preferable, but this was a decent performance and a good point.
