Are the covers on?

Postby Tempie » Fri Jan 20, 2017 6:06 pm

It looks like it's going to freeze. Are the covers on? If not are we putting them on? I can come down and help.

And what does it look like for tonight, Well:

Chorley FC ‏@chorleyfc · Jan 17
Looks like just the threat of our new pitch covers have sent Jack Frost packing, with the forecast now for warmer weather we are not now laying out the covers tomorrow as planned. Thank you everyone who came forwards with offer of help #tillnexttime

As we have had no response I hope it does not freeze tonight or maybe covers are on,if so I am available to help remove in morning if needed.

The pitch is fine despite the last minute change in the weather.
Whilst the offers of help are, I'm sure very much appreciated, its no good putting them on mis.
To my mind we still need someone to step forward and offer to take charge of the covering and uncovering of the pitch.
The part time ground staff were down on Wednesday when the forecast was fine so covers didn't go on. They would of put the covering on but didn't see the need, plus if they had of put them on who would have removed them.
Perhaps if someone is prepared to take responsibility they could step forward and identity themselves and take contact details from those prepared to lend a hand.

Far be it for me to say. but would it not have been a useful exercise to get any volunteers together, put the covers on and then take them off on match day? A practice run, if you like. This would have meant any volunteers could see what was involved and would be identifiable as a small team, contact numbers and so on, so that when it gets proper frosty the whole operation could be performed relatively easily.
It would certainly have been embarrasing if the weather had gone the other way last night and the pitch was unplayable today because the covers were not on.

I agree Andrew but again who's going to do that?
The current band of volunteers are all maxed out and while I'm happy to help if I'm available I already have enough on with other duties. Today's game would be the ideal time for one of the folks who have offered to help to go that bit further and offer to take responsibility.

12th man. I tweeted yesterday, I didn't just put it on here. I was trying any which way to get a response from the club. I would in my opinion have put the covers in last night but I was told the groundsman was happy. (Read the tweets if you want). It would have been a shambles if it was off. It was close because I had to scrape the van this morning so another degree or two lower and we'd have been in bother. Wednesday mornings aren't good for me as I have my 3 yo daughter. Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday afternoons are better. Or even after work on Friday like last night.

I replied to the original tweet put out by the club offering to help both days.
Didn't hear anything back.

To all those folks prepared to help, why don't you approach Ken or Graham or Jeremy or any director on a match day and offer your services? That's how I got involved, just leave your details, if they don't get back to you at least you've tried and it's their loss. This is a fans forum, I doubt Ken reads the posts on here, and Twitter is run by media folks which again is not a direct communication with the folk who run things. To me posting on social media is not a direct offer of help, its just a way of being seen to offer help.

I believe no one has yet stepped forward and offered to take charge of monitoring the weather and covering the pitch and that's what we are asking for.

So to try and move things along, and as there's no game next Saturday, myself and Graham have agreed to come to the ground in the morning and do a practice run of laying the covers. If anyone is interested in helping then I urge them to either post on here if they are coming or pm me. I hope all those who have expressed an interest can spare the time and attend.

The call for volunteers placed on the website has requested people to contact the club by either emailing info@chorleyfc.com or ring 01257 230007, it didn't ask for replys, retweets or likes.

The tweet posted by the club said "anyone who is available particularly Saturday please REPLY"

You seem to love winding people up on here (particularly me)! I tweeted because the office isn't open so no point in ringing!
