Have we signed a keeper for the Fleetwood game?
BT reporter was saying Byrne. Is that true or has it fallen through?
Is there not a deadline that he has to be signed by?

BREAKING NEWS | Magpies bring in Byrne

Chorley FC are delighted to announce the signing of Cardiff City goalkeeper Oliver Byrne on a youth loan until the end of December. The 19-year-old completed an apprenticeship with Manchester United in 2016 and consequently signed for the Bluebirds that summer.

Magpies boss Matt Jansen said: “It’s great we’ve been able to bring in Oliver. He’s been recommended to us before now by Andy Dibble, the goalkeeping coach at Cardiff City. He’s got great distribution for a young goalkeeper and we’re thrilled to have him here.”

He added: “Hopefully we’ll see him impress as we put things in place ahead of our FA Cup clash. We’d also like to thank everyone at Cardiff City for helping get this deal over the line, including Neil Warnock, Bryn Gunn and Andy Dibble. These connections are vital as we continue to push at the top of the table.”

Byrne will be available for our Emirates FA Cup First Round Proper fixture against Fleetwood Town on Monday.

It good that Matt has such good contacts within the game and its also good to see younger players coming on loan from league clubs.

Young league keepers can be equally as good as older ones at a non-league level, but will he be used to large crowds breathing down his neck? And TV cameras? Hopefully he'll
put in a cool, calm performance.
