Busy time at Spennymoore

Postby Locki » Fri Mar 15, 2013 2:26 pm

Just looking around the feeder league I was shocked at the number of games Spennymoor have left to play, there current fixture list is:

Sat, 16/03/2013 Spennymoor Town -v- Sunderland RCA
Mon, 18/03/2013 Spennymoor Town -v- Newcastle Benfield
Wed, 20/03/2013 Spennymoor Town -v- Hebburn Town
Sat, 23/03/2013 Guernsey -v- Spennymoor Town (FA Vase, Semi Final 1st Leg)
Mon, 25/03/2013 Sunderland RCA -v- Spennymoor Town (League Cup, 4th Round)
Sat, 30/03/2013 Spennymoor Town -v- Guernsey ( FA Vase, Semi Final 2nd Leg)
Mon, 01/04/2013 Spennymoor Town -v- Whitley Bay
Thu, 04/04/2013 Billingham Town -v- Spennymoor Town
Sat, 06/04/2013 Bishop Auckland -v- Spennymoor Town
Sat, 13/04/2013 Spennymoor Town -v- Marske United
Sat, 20/04/2013 Hebburn Town -v- Spennymoor Town
Sat, 27/04/2013 Spennymoor Town -v- Durham City

Quite a lot to fit in before the end of April and apparently the FA are not keen for any leagues outside of the professional game to continue into May.

So 12 games in six weeks, not too bad, but maybe a trip to Wembley in the Vase and progress in the League Cup to add to this, as well as the Durham Challenge Cup final - and that's not all! A further TWO home league games need scheduling as well as the small matter of EIGHT away games!!!

So they've got to squeeze in at least TWENTY THREE games in the next 42 days and that doesn't take into account any further postponements due to the weather - and Arsene Wenger keeper is mentally tired after playing once a week!!!

And that's why Darlington FC 1883 will win the league

I cannot fathom why the Prem is going up to 24 teams next season. I heard a couple of Buxton officials discussing it on the way out of the ground today and they were equally bewildered.

I don't know how the league is run to be honest but its organisation has never impressed me. I have never understood why we have a league cup when none of the teams seem interested in it, and especially not some of the ludicrous setups we have had in recent years. The group phase was probably the most ridiculous.

What I really don't get though is that the teams don't protest against some of this stuff. Who wants the extra games?

If anything I think they should cut the number of teams to 20 and bin the league cup.

Good to see Spennymoor back though - they have had some tough times there since the social club burnt down. I used to enjoy our trips there. It's a shame a few more Northern League clubs don't take promotion.
