No surprise there really - hardly got a game last season

Anyway with our record of snapping up AFC F staff - no it couldn't happen could it ??

He is someone I wanted in our team a couple of years ago, but now I'm not so sure as I think we can attract better players.

Have to agree with the above.

Be interesting to see who we do sign though.

FROM FYLDE WEBSITE

Chairman David Haythornthwaite said: “Michael has been a terrific servant to this club and has been instrumental in helping us reach the level we are at today.

“On his day there is no one better to watch. He single handily destroyed Chorley at the Reebok on a night that will long live in the memory for all Coasters fans that were there. It’s sad to see him go but that’s football and we move on. All the best wishes and a big thank you from all of us at Fylde.”

As I remember it, we had O'Brien and another defender off injured and in last 5 min we had to push forward at 2-1 down leaving gaps for him to run through. He wouldn't have destroyed last season's back four.
Mark Ross seems to always have had the better of him.
I agree with Ian. We might do better, although he could prove us wrong. Waddecar perhaps? Or Shelton P (who came to our playoff final)? Or someone from a higher league, an ex-Barrow winger who can't travel, perhaps.
Were his best 6 years at Fylde?

"Do we really need a wide player who's spent his best 6 years at Fylde?"

NO.

The policy of signing players from Fylde and giving them a new lease of life has served us quite well previously.

Barnes has always shown plenty of quality whenever I've seen him (admittedly not for a while). At 27, he's certainly not past it but he's suffered with one or two injuries over recent times.

If he can/has overcome the injuries then he could be a very good signing given a change of scene etc.

Confused.com. Which Michael Barnes?

Wiki shows a different player to the link above.

Posters on Fylde Forum seem to regret his going.

Squire of the Gate says:
Barnsey will walk into any Conf North club and be one of there (?) best players.
I'm not sure the injuries he had would be repeated (especially if you look at his record before this season) so a strange reason (unless there is more that is being kept private) and for me he was always a player that could make something happen so like Joe Booth I'm sorry to see him go as he's not been replaced by anything better as yet.

Promising signing maybe.

I would have him like a shot, a properly exciting player although I admit I have not seen him play since the Lancashire cup final.

' Wide ' position not a priority, provided we keep Hine, Stephenson, Almond, Jarvis, Dorney .....

Gutted to say the least. Maybe Garry has better players in mind but I doubt it.

I am gutted too, he is a terrific player, certainly would have improved our team considerably, but let's leave it up to Garry, he hasn't let us down so far has he?

I'm sure he'll have irons in the fire, can't see many players turning down a chance of playing under Garry and Matt for a team who got to the playoff final in their first season in the Conference North
