Chorley v Bolton Wanderers..........

Postby Charlie Magpie » Mon Jul 03, 2017 3:31 pm

According to the BWFC official website it is Bolton Wanderers we are playing on Saturday, 8th July, and not a Bolton Wanderers XI.

Quote; BOLTON WANDERERS CONFIRMED PRE-SEASON SCHEDULE SO FAR

Saturday 8 July v Chorley (A), Victory Park, 3pm

Tuesday 18 July v AFC Fylde (A), Mill Farm, 7:30pm

Saturday 22 July v Fleetwood Town (A), Highbury Stadium, 3pm

Tuesday 25 July Stockport County (A), Edgeley Park, 7.45pm

Saturday 29 July v Stoke City (H), Macron Stadium, 3pm

An opportunity to see our squad in action against a Championship League outfit, and a chance for both sets of supporters to see their pre-season signings take to the field in their new colours for the first time. Let's hope for a good attendance from home and away supporters in order to boost the Magpies' coffers, and maybe help Matt to add even more quality to our squad for the tough season that lies ahead!

Forget about seeing Alex Samizadeh on Saturday. He has gone to Kilmarnock on a season long loan.

A word of note, Chorley/Bolton fans travelling to the game though Adlington...
Due to the adlington carnival parade (starts 12 noon) expect delays due to 50 floats & road closures !

[quote="Charlie Magpie"]According to the BWFC official website it is Bolton Wanderers we are playing on Saturday, 8th July, and not a Bolton Wanderers XI.

What a great first half by the boys! They fully deserved to be two up at half-time through a couple of fine goals in the opening 18 minutes. Terrific strong solo run and finish by Marcus for the second! And it could have been three but for a finger-tip save onto and over the bar from a good effort by Terry Gornell who had earlier scored the first with a smart finish to a neat build-up down the right. Wanderers' first half team was full of experience, though as often in these games trying to follow who was actually on the pitch from a speculative couple of line-ups on the team-sheet was a test in itself! And we also contrived to play in red shirts without numbers, which a couple of Bolton officials took in good spirit as a ploy to to prevent their players knowing where ours were! Of course it all went wrong for us with the skipper's red card on 43 minutes. A clear case of a delayed red mist descending on Teaguey almost in slow motion. It was a dreadful challenge on him and had no place in a pre-season friendly but Teaguey with all his experience should have known better than to dramatically charge at his opponent and lay hands upon him in a violent manner, which prompted a brief 'handbags' exchange among several players close by. It invited the referee to take action which after a moment or two he did. The Bolton player appeared to receive a yellow card. On reflection, given that this was a friendly, the referee surely could have signalled to the Chorley bench to 'take him off before I send him off'. It totally ruined the game as a watchable contest in the second half. Our ten couldn't hold a Bolton side pepped up with enthusiastic subs and it made matters worse when we replaced our experienced central defenders for the last 20 minutes, which cost us the winning goal (not that that really matters, of course). Excellent attendance on a very sunny afternoon. The positive for me was that with the bulk of last season's squad on show, plus one or two promising additions, we looked sharp enough at this early stage to give Championship opponents a real run for their money (and more) until events completely changed the dynamics of the game.

Can anyone tell me what are the consequences of being sent off in a pre-season friendly? Are the rules re suspension the same as those for a League game?

Due to the continuing chopping and changes of the rules it is hard to say. The most recent rule I am aware of is that the suspension will apply to all remaining friendly games, (eight to go!), but will not apply when the season begins.

Great news Ian! So you are now probably a mere £270 out of pocket, give or take. :D
