Funny Old Game

Postby andrewa » Sun Jul 30, 2017 7:25 am

It was a surprise to see the familiar name CMW in yesterday's line up. Having left the club for Stockport, who he seemed to perceive as a bigger club with more chance of success, he is now back again.
If you read the County forum, he was not a great success and his physical condition left many to doubt his commitment to making a full comeback and fullfilling his undoubted potential.
The management at Chorley place a lot of emphasis on "team ethic", so it seems a bit odd that this player has been given another run out at the club.
What's going on? Apparently his free kick was a real beauty but according to the Wrexham forum he was "bulky".
He is talented, so how did he play and is his immediate future at the club also can he commit to getting fit?

Sadly he is still at least a stone overweight, consequently is slow and lacks mobility. He is undoubtedly talented with a great left foot and the free kick equaliser was superb. Is he here to stay, will he commit? I guess only he and Matt can answer that. Personally have mixed feelings, he could be the midfielder we have needed since Tom Baker was injured but will he put everything into it?

If you see the back page of the Chorley Guardian this week, you'll see Janny's views about a longer-term return for CMW. It's not a foregone conclusion by any means

For those that don't/can't get it, what was said?

Basically, Janny has said that CMW needs to prove his fitness and commitment before there is any offer on the table from Chorley. He said that he has much to offer providing he can prove his fitness. Can't really disagree with that at all.

Neither can I. We know what CMW can do, and he is a good player. But as we know what he's like he needs to prove he's changed.

That all sounds good. It would be great if he can get fit and motivated. If he can't then he has to go, as the team ethic does not allow passengers.
Good luck to him and the team on Saturday.

Allowing CMW to come back to the club calls into question Jansen's judgement IMO. Jansen was quoted as saying that he had offered him a contract, but that CMW wouldn't return Jansen's calls at the end of 2015/16 season and then surprise surprise he has signed for Stockport. Their fans were glad to get rid of him, so what can he add to Chorley? It's obvious that he's been trawling round clubs in the pre-season without success, due the fact that he played in Chorley's last friendly of the season. We are his last resort, we don't owe him anything and he won't change so why waste time on him? Jansen makes such a big thing about team spirit, but some of the players must wonder how he can even be considered for a place in the squad. Is there only Jansen that can't see that he is overweight, over-rated, unfit, immobile, lacks commitment and that he can't/won't change???

Totally agree. Smacks of desperation from both parties. Is that the best we can get? If he does ever get fit he will just leave and sign for someone else.
