The History of Chorley Football Club Chorley Football Club was founded in 1875 as a Rugby Union club, switching to Association Football in 1883. These pages are an attempt to bring together all available information on the history of the club. Any information will be gratefully received and acknowledged - please e-mail contributions to Mark Rees. I am particularly interested in details of cup runs and attendances from before 1990. The idea to write this section was formed on the occasion of the Supporters' Club Player's Reunion on 31 March 2000. The presence of so many former favourites from as far back as the 1950s was testament to the high regard in which the club is still held. The event, held in the social club, was a resounding success with players and fans alike. A highlight for many was meeting Peter Watson, the club's record goalscorer, who was a major factor in the club's most successful period, the early 1960s. Between 1958 and 1966, Chorley topped the Lancashire Combination three times and were also runners up on three occasions. The Lancashire Junior Cup was won four times, and the Lancashire Combination Cup twice. A full honours list is featured in this section. Chorley hold the record for the most Junior Cups, which we have won 14 times, and won the Lancashire Combination on 11 occasions, 5 more than the nearest challenger. Thanks to Geoff Rushton and Greger Lindberg for help.
